Ocoee, FL (PRWEB) August 29, 2010 — FX Design Group http://www.fxgrouponline.com (FX) recently added a new tool to its already impressive scenic fabrication arsenal, a Plasti-Vac Model P6100 vacuum form machine. The machine, which is able to handle sheets of material up to 5 feet by 9 feet, is one of the largest of its kind in the Southeast.
Vacuum forming machines are used to make everything from hot tubs to drinking cups. The process involves first heating a sheet of plastic to a forming temperature. Once the sheet reaches the proper temperature, it is stretched onto or into a single surface mold and held against the mold by applying a vacuum between the mold surface and the sheet. When the plastic cools, it is removed from the mold and the process repeated again. FX believes it will open new design doors and possibilities for all of its clients.
FX designers are excited about the design prospects the vacuum form technology presents. Since completing the month-long installation, FX has included their unique wave wall designs in both corporate events as well as a soon-to-be-debuted television news sets. FX designers see unlimited lighting designs and looks using unique dimensional shapes. Creative Director Bill Brown says “I think the elements we will now be ale to include in our sets will dovetail nicely with recent developments in color changing LEDs. Now there is no limit to the looks we can achieve by back and front lighting the surfaces created in the vacuum form machine, either in an opaque or a translucent surface to let light through.”
FX CEO/Creative Director Mack McLaughlin says “Now we see virtually no limits in what the company can offer.” The company can offer its clients greater unique and uniform design elements. Before the vacuum form machine was introduced, these scenic elements would be more two dimensional which limited designers. In addition, fabrication required more time and labor in the company’s CNC router department. With the new vacuum form machine FX can create exact uniform copies of each element much more efficiently. The use of vacuum form materials will make a greener choice for FX clients.
“FX’s vacuum forming technology is truly incredible,” Brown continued. “We’re literally looking at a blank canvass with each new design we create.”
