Local 3 News viewers can now see a completely new studio and presentation on all its daily newscasts.  The latest technology studio and new set reinforce Local 3’s leadership in news and service to people across the Tennessee Valley.

The new set is a one-of-a-kind design that includes technologies and storytelling tools unique to Local 3. The studio offers 360-degree views and overhead cameras, providing viewers with comprehensive views and new ways of seeing local stories. The high-tech set includes a Phillips LED wall behind the anchors, featuring video from throughout the Tennessee Valley.

An all-new Storm Alert Weather Center allows viewers to see accurate forecasts featuring touchscreen technology, additional monitors for viewer-sourced content, and a 165-inch weather presentation area to bring enhanced forecast graphics into sharp focus.

In addition, a newly designed traffic center provides viewers with critical traffic information as incidents occur on Tennessee Valley roadways. The studio also includes a multi-use set that allows the station’s advertising clients to shine with specialized 3 Plus You segments and commercials.

“The planning for this project started a year ago,” said Callie Starnes, Local 3’s President and General Manager. “We started with viewer feedback and then asked our journalists what they needed to serve our audience better. That feedback allowed us to build a space that sets us apart in storytelling capabilities and better serve our community.”

“Our goal from the beginning was to represent our community better with hyper-local stories,” said Megan Roberts, News Director. “From accurate forecasts to fair and balanced reporting on issues that matter most to our viewers, this upgrade represents our commitment to our viewers.”

Florida-based FX Design Group designed, fabricated and installed the set using technology provided by Digital Video Group. FX also designed and installed the set’s lighting. Chattanooga-based JDM Construction, Mountain City Electric, and Georgia Carpet Industries/Joseph Web Installation brought the design to life.

The studio renovation gave Local 3 News another way to give back to the community.

The entire former studio was donated to support broadcasting and theatre students at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga, Ringgold High School, the Chattanooga Theatre Center, and Berry College in Rome, Georgia.
